What is creativity? A person might say that creativity is the process of making novel relational products which were either new to you or new to your culture or milieu. . . But let's make it simple: Creativity is making something new. But that doesn't answer the question of "How to be creative?" This question is a bit more complicated. For the answer to that we have to look to a psychologist . . . . Moshe Feldenkrais. . . . In "The Potent Self," he says: "Each of us speaks, moves, thinks, and feels in a different way, each according to the image of himself he has built up over the years. In order to change our mode of action we must change the image of ourselves that we carry with us." TO BE MORE CREATIVE YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR SELF IMAGE In other words the habits we've formed, the ways we move and use our bodies, and the image of how we use the world and how we let the world use us -- that must change. If you want to be more creative you actually have to change. And you have to continue to do that so that making new stuff is easy and happens spontaneously but isn't routine and doesn't get boring. PERSIST OVER TIME The I"Ching, the Chinese book of changes says of the creative : "Its energy is represented as unrestricted by any fixed conditions in space and is therefore conceived of as motion. Time is regarded as the basis of this motion. Thus the creative also includes the power of persisting in time, that is duration. TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE I'CHING THE CHINESE BOOK OF CHANGES. |
