HUMOR
What's funny and what makes it funny? Is humor a static thing or does it change as society changes? A
horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?" Is that funny? "Fleas, Adam had em!"
Is that funny? What is humor? Why does a pretty girl wearing almost nothing slip on a banana, her legs fly up
in the air, we see her bum and she lands on her rump. Is that funny? A comic stands on stage and shouts
"Poo poo, pee pee! F@#k your big fat dingy Dogie doo." Is that funny? What's funny? Why am I asking this
and why are you reading it? . . What's funny?! A naked man has to go to the bathroom and runs around
holding his legs together and then slips in the mud. Now that's a dirty joke! . . . but what's funny?

Isn't it true that what we call funny actually is changing as we change as people? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe
there is a constant to humor. What do you think. Did you know Freud wrote a book about jokes. It's true. It's
called "Jokes and their Relation to the Subconscious."

In "Jokes and their Relation to the Subconscious," Freud defines a joke as "a playful communication without
moral implication whereby an image implanted in the audience's mind is twisted with utmost brevity to
reveal unforeseen consequences, thereby triggering an involuntary reaction". He goes on to explain that it
is even funnier if you can include the word "knob".

The source of all jokes, humor, wit and comedy is man's repressed instinctual nature, especially the
instincts of sex and aggression. In civilization, these emotions (and all their variations) can seldom be
expressed directly. But they are permitted entry into consciousness in the distorted form of jokes and
humor, whose true unconscious meaning is understood by all.

So What's so funny!
